Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin appears as a white thermoplastic powder produced by the suspension polymerization process. It is insoluble in water, gasoline, and ethanol, but soluble in ketones, dichloromethane, and aromatic hydrocarbons. PVC resin features good chemical resistance, corrosion resistance, and dielectric properties. With appropriate additives (e.g., plasticizer and stabilizer), it can be converted into a wide range of finished products with tailored physical and mechanical properties. Based on the degree of polymerization, PVC suspension resin is categorized into 8 general grades, ranging from SG-1 to SG-8.
SG-7
SG-7 has an average degree of polymerization of 800 (741-845). Compared with SG-5, it features lower viscosity and molecular weight, resulting in improved melt fluidity and processability. This makes SG-7 more suitable for rigid and semi-rigid PVC products manufactured through injection molding, extrusion, and calendering processes.
